Since May 2024, we have been receiving visits from local schools.
We offer a wonderful opportunity for an educational visit. We will give your young people an experience that will stimulate their interest in the environment and sustainability.
Our typical day runs from 10am til 2pm but we can be flexible and can even accommodate over-night camping.
Come to us and engage in some of the following activities:
Growing Food: depending on the time of year this might be sowing seeds, planting trees or harvesting food. Students will learn about different kinds of plants and how trees play their part in burying carbon in the ground.
Fire Skills: we always have a fire going in our octagon shelter. People will learn how to be safe around fire and the science of what a fire needs to burn well.
Cooking lunch: using our outdoor kitchen we will prepare a soup or stew for lunch from scratch. People will learn about different ingredients and try new flavours.
Storytelling: there is nothing like sitting round a fire to encourage children to listen to stories and tell their own.
Our school visits are currently suitable for KS2, KS3 and KS4. We can accommodate groups of up to 30.
We will spend the whole time outside and whereas the Octagon is a good place to shelter from the elements, visitors do need to dress for the weather. We suggest wellies and waterproofs.
We now have quite a lot of experience of welcoming schools but are still keen to fashion our sessions to fit with what you are looking for. Please get in touch and we can discuss the sort of thing that would work best for your group.
